Tracee Ellis Ross Announces ‘The Golden Girls’ Remake Starring Regina King, Alfre Woodard, & Sanaa Lathan

Published: Tuesday 8th Sep 2020 by Sam

Over 25 years after ‘The Golden Girls’ – comprised of Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White, and Estelle Getty – originally went off the air, their stories are set to shine once again courtesy of Tracee Ellis Ross.

Full story below…

The Golden Globe winning actress has assembled an all-star cast for a special imagining of the hit sitcom.

Embracing the power of the internet, the ‘Black-ish’ star has called on some of Black Hollywood’s leading ladies – namely Academy Award winner Regina King, Alfre Woodard, and Sanaa Lathan – to perform their own take on classic show on Zoom.

A description of the refreshed version, which premieres tonight (Sept 8) at 6/9 ET read:

“We bring to you our rendition of Golden Girls, reimagined with an all-Black cast of your favorite actresses: Alfre Woodard, Tracee Ellis Ross, Sanaa Lathan, and Regina King, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and hosted by Lena Waithe.

This event is in partnership with Zoom, and the first episode is spotlighting and supporting Color of Change — the nation’s largest online racial justice organization.

Some black actors have no honour nor integrity.

  2. 🍭marilyn monh-O-E🍭 September 8, 2020

Hunny, u can’t be serious. This ain’t Sister Act or Dreamgirls…. they ruined the originality.

    • Don’t touch my hair September 8, 2020

      The original version is better

  3. lucy+fur September 8, 2020

disgrace to the legacy of the show

  4. XYZ September 8, 2020

Why can’t they be creative these days? So tired of those remakes just to redo them with more ethnicity or out of lack of ideas. Think of own stories and themes.

    • Gag September 8, 2020

Y’all do realize this is gonna be a move Zoom version?! Calm the f*** down. What are you doing with your life ?

  5. Jackx September 8, 2020

  6. Dominik September 8, 2020

Why do we need this?! Just don’t

  7. Hated September 8, 2020

Y’all are gonna hate me for this, but whatever I don’t care. Can white people have anything for themselves?

    • Fancy BISH September 8, 2020

Isn’t this just like a one-off tho lol…it doesn’t seem like a full on remake show, just something cute 👀 that will leave quickly (thank God) 😂 Now, back to the iconic masterpiece that is the original Golden Girls! 🤳🏽 This is the Golden Gworls 🤣 Plus, the majority of the cast are too young (and look too young) anyways 💯

      • 🍭marilyn monh-O-E🍭 September 8, 2020

I rather have them bringing back Whoopi Goldberg & Lauryn Hill for Sister Act 3: Holy Moly😂🤣😂🤣😂

  8. Meme September 8, 2020

We didn’t ask for this. I hope this is just a zoom thing.

  9. Quan September 8, 2020

Honestly they had no business doing this

  10. Eric September 8, 2020

These great women are smart enough to know better. It’s like picking up the scraps that fell from a table we weren’t invited to originally. They don’t have to accept this.

  11. lol September 8, 2020

Leeches. This is literally the dumbest and rudest thing I’ve heard today thus far. Actually in a LONG time SMH.

  12. That Grape 🍇 Kool-Aid September 8, 2020

Wth??? This is like golden girls falling from grace & turned in to ghetto women on the street corner 🙄🙄🙄🙄

    • Don’t touch my hair September 8, 2020

      😂😂😊😂🤣🤣🤣🤣💀

  13. Peter September 8, 2020

The Golden Girls were white ladies of a certain age. They can not be replaced. If they are to be replaced with Ethnic Minority women then it can not be Golden but Muddy Brown Girls.

  14. Flopyonce September 8, 2020

Wish black people would stop appropriating white culture

  15. Fancy BISH September 8, 2020

Yeah so sit on it b****

  17. GetALife September 8, 2020

That’s the same thing Black people say when the world takes from their culture and make money off it! So the answer to your question is HELL NO! When I saw the photo I knew their were gonna be some racist comments.

  18. DeanD September 8, 2020

I think this is a great idea! What’s wrong with these talented, award-winning actresses paying tribute to a legendary sitcom like the Golden Girls? It’s a one-off on Zoom for charity. You guys will b**** and complain about anything.

  19. Girlbye September 8, 2020

Sorry white peoples but the golden girls was dry just like y’all skin.

    • Fancy BISH September 8, 2020

  20. Trump 2020 September 8, 2020

An all black cast does not equal Diversity… Yawn

  21. Mark Hazelwood September 8, 2020

So EVERY white cast member of popular shows need to be re imagined with other actors that are black because ?
What is there NO ONE able to think of new concepts and shows ? All things need to be “redone” in different colour because?
So sick of things being replaced all because someone doesn’t like the shade of colour the actors have or are just to Effen lazy to come up with something else . #Annie #TheWiz etc etc
